Food and drink on the Aston Campus

CaféTierra Food Court in the Main Building

What and where...

There are plenty of places to eat on campus. In the Main Building the contemporary food court, Tierra, offers hot meals from traditional UK favourites to a selection of world foods, grab and go snacks, sandwiches, salads and pastries, as well as COSTA coffee. CaféLibro within Aston University Library also offers COSTA coffee and a host of grab and go sandwiches, pastries, snacks and paninis. More information. There are extensive vending services on campus, including a COSTA express.

Don't forget to sign up for Touch Pay, the University's cashless payment scheme that runs through your ID card - sign up and save 10% when ever you use it in Tierra and CafeLibro.

In the Students' Union you can get good quality pub grub from B4 Bar, sandwiches and snacks from the Union Shop and there's also a Subway.

Aston's catered packages offer a great way to budget for food while you're on campus. You pay an amount at the start of the academic year or at the start of each term and we automatically spread this out over the year or term. Basically, it works by adding £50 to your student ID, each week, for you to spend on food across campus, at any time to suit you. It refreshes at the start of each week, automatically. Visit the Catering pages for more information.

Add money to your student ID card and use it to buy food and drink on campus. As our way of saying thank you for using it, you'll save 10% each time you use it to pay. No catch. No sign up fee. No application form. Register online, add funds and you're ready to go! Simple! More information.

The card can be loaded with funds before you arrive on campus and you can top up throughout the year if you’re running low. You can even ask your parents or guardians to treat you throughout the year, maybe for birthdays or Christmas as they can access the portal from home too! As a Touch Pay account holder, you’ll also enjoy some great, exclusive discounts throughout the year. More information.

Eating off campus

Birmingham is full of great value pubs cafes and restaurants, and many offer student discounts, close to campus. Head to Chinatown, the Arcadian Centre, Corporation Street, Broad Street or the Bullring and you're bound to find something you like, or check out one of Birmingham's many curry houses.

Supermarkets & markets

There's a shop on campus for the essentials, and several larger stores within walking distance of campus. If you want to stock up for a few weeks there are also bigger supermarkets close by. The Bullring Market is open Tuesdays - Saturdays and is a great place to buy cheap, fresh fruit and veg.

What to bring

Don't bring too much food with you when you move in - just enough to see you through the first week or so. If your parent's are dropping you off at Aston, make use of their car and get them to take you food shopping!
