Aston University is holding an event to launch the new Aston Interactive Media (AIM) Lab, a state-of-the-art lab dedicated to research into, and development and evaluation of, innovative interactive media and applications. The lab’s novel design and infrastructure establish it as a rare facility, capable of supporting innovative research-and industry-led design of interaction-based technologies and applications. Its unique combination of facilities make it ideally equipped to support innovation in the field of mobile interactive technologies and the application of effective, novel approaches to the evaluation of such technologies. The AIM Lab can, via its unique combination of infrastructure and the specialist expertise of internationally renowned research staff, offer a range of services to support organisations in making the most out of interactive technologies. The AIM Lab can offer businesses:
Dr Jo Lumsden, Manager of the AIM Lab, is able to offer this support to businesses free of charge via the Touch Digital project. This European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) supported project is being conducted in partnership with Coventry University and aims to benefit 400 SMEs with potential for high growth through its lifetime. The project encourages not only existing SMEs to innovate, but those with ideas for interactive technology innovations (particularly students and recent graduates) to move their ideas to the research stage and ultimately to start up new companies. The project hopes to contribute to the creation of 100 new jobs, 75 new products, and 75 new businesses by June 2015. Dr Lumsden said of the launch: “We are delighted to be able to open the doors of our lab to West Midlands’ industry and look forward to assisting local businesses in maximally benefiting from, and innovating in the field of, interactive technology, both as part of the Touch Digital project and beyond”.
The AIM Lab Launch will take part on Wednesday 23rd October at 5:30pm. The event provides an opportunity to explore this state-of-the-art facility as well as discuss potential for collaboration with the AIM Lab research team.
