Student placements are playing a key role in supporting business and enhancing graduate employability, with a one year placement alongside a university degree seen as ‘fundamental’ in bridging the gap between higher education and the work place.
At Aston University over half of our undergraduates now opt to undertake a work based placement year as part of a four year course, spanning across Schools of Business, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Life and Health Sciences and Languages and Social Science. The University strongly believes that placements are vital in offering employers an opportunity to give their businesses a raw edge by recruiting high calibre students, whilst providing undergraduates with the high level of work based skills they need.
Having a placement student can bring many benefits to your business, for example:
Many recruiters have come to recognise the benefits of offering student placements within their business. Our recent placement report which surveyed over 400 employers found that 97.9% of Placement Employers felt that their students’ work met or exceeded expectation.
Steve Meadows from Pinewood Technologies PLC who recruit business and computer science students said: ‘We feel our company profile has been raised, and that we are now connecting with students of exceptional quality, which has convinced us it was right to focus exclusively on working with Aston.’
Aston University has been successfully managing placements for over 30 years throughout the UK, Europe and beyond. Aston’s Employer Engagement Team provides a single point of contact for employers looking to recruit a placement student, making the process of employing one of our students as easy as possible.
