Photonics and Sensing Showcase at Aston University

Electronic Engineering

On Tuesday 28th February 2012 the world-renowned Photonics Research Group at Aston University will be holding a half-day event to showcase the wide range of industrial applications for the photonics and sensing technologies they have developed and are currently developing.

This highly acclaimed research group are keen to share success stories and best practice from their industrial collaborations and will be giving demonstrations and showing practical applications of some of their ground-breaking research. Delegates from SME's to large companies are invited to attend this interactive and informative event.

Photonics and sensing technologies are relevant to a wide range of applications in many sectors such as wind turbine performance monitoring, oil and gas exploration, bridge, tunnel and other structural monitoring, marine, defence and quality assurance in the food and automotive industries.

A particular area of strength is in the development of optical fibre gratings that can be configured to sense strain, bending, pressure, temperature and refractive index, which allows their use in a wide range of medical applications.

The event will begin with a welcome from Aston University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Julia King and will also include a presentation by Dr. Peter Foote, Executive Scientist at BAE Systems (Operations) Ltd, who will be speaking about his personal experience of working with the group.

To register your interest in this event or for further information, please contact Chantal De-Silva c.de-silva@aston.ac.uk or on 0121 204 4255.
