Aston University and Birmingham Science Park Aston are working on a programme to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week. This includes Launch48 - launching a web apps business in 48 hours through to TECHWEDNESDAY.com - and a Gaming & Digital Technology Conference for 150 people on 16th November 2010.

The games and digital day brings together a vast array of entrepreneurial showcases including Rare, Microsoft Games Studio, Blitz Games, Daden, Soshi Games and many more. Digital media includes everything from online tools and content to computer games and mobile products and services.

The UK Games industry is the second largest in the world after the USA, and the West Midlands region has 21% of the UK games workforce.  The region has become the UK’s hub for games, serious games and interactive digital media. With the support of Birmingham City Council, ScreenWM and Game Central; Aston University and Birmingham Science Park Aston are pleased to be able to provide this programme.

Philip Oliver, Chief Executive Officer, Blitz Games Studios said: “Global Entrepreneurship Week is an exciting movement and we are pleased to be supporting future entrepreneurial talent in conjunction with Birmingham Science Park Aston. When we founded Blitz, some 20 years ago, there was little or no support of this kind available to us so we have always made the time to help support those coming into the industry behind us. Our Blitz 1UP initiative, which helps new indie developers to bring their games to market, is the latest of these efforts. We look forward to meeting the next generation of entrepreneurs and that they gain much insight and inspiration from the week’s activities and events.”

Over half of all young people in the UK want to start a business, yet only 1 in 20 of them actually do. Aston University and Birmingham Science Park Aston run BSEEN (Birmingham Skills for Enterprise and Employability Network) and The Entrepreneurs for the Future programmes to support this next generation of entrepreneurs. BSEEN and E4f will be supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week - a worldwide movement of entrepreneurial people, with millions unleashing their enterprising talents and turning their ideas into reality.
