Aston's 2010 Formula Student team

As Aston enters its 11th year of participation, Aston’s engineering students are calling on businesses to help speed them to a top five UK finish in Formula Student 2011.

The biggest competition of its kind in Europe, Formula Student is an international event held at Silverstone, which is attended by over 100 teams from every continent on the globe, and visited by over 3,000 people over four days. Run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), it promotes careers and excellence in engineering by challenging university students to design, build, develop, market and compete as a team with a small single-seater racing car. Formula Student attracts entries from universities all over the world, as well as representatives from Industry looking to attract the best young talent in Engineering.

Aston is also entering The Shell Eco Marathon, which challenges teams to design and build the most fuel efficient car possible - the winner being the team to travel the furthest on 1litre of fuel. The Aston Shell Eco team is the proud owner of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell, which could be the future of automotive transport. In addition, the team plans to push the boundaries of sustainable car design by producing a truly conceptual car, and exploring some unusual materials including marine plywood and wire-reinforced fabrics. Designed as an urban car of the future, the concept also includes the ability to reduce the length of the car to make use of tighter parking spaces. The aim is to compete with a car that will leave a lasting impact on the judges, and inspire others at the competition.

Sponsoring either Formula Student or The Shell Eco Marathon is a great way to join a host of high profile companies already involved, and raise national or international awareness of your company among industry representatives and students alike or demonstrate your green credentials. Benefits include branding opportunities on the car and team kit, stands and promotional material and the team website, but sponsorship packages are negotiable.
