Fred is a research fellow on the Disaster 2.0 project, investigating the use of social media and semantic technologies in disaster management.  Before joining Aston, he received a PhD in computer science and a master's degree in artificial intelligence from The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.  He also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition and as a visiting researcher at the Kno.e.sis Center of Wright State University.  He has also taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and philosophy.
