Working with business

Central to our mission is the determination to deliver impact; we are committed to generating research that makes a sustainable difference to people, organisations and economies.

Our researchers work with businesses to develop tools and interventions that deliver tangible commercial benefits and make a lasting contribution to their success. Aston is the second largest provider of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) in the West Midlands, and 12th largest in the UK.

Aston has been recognised for leading some of the country’s most exciting schemes to help businesses develop, through schemes such as the Innovation Vouchers and Engaging Research for Business Transformation (EREBUS).

Research Impact

Examples of our research in practice

  • In partnership with Chiltern Railways, Aston Business School has developed a gamified approach to managing rail disruptions to improve customer experience.

  • Aston delivers cutting edge entrepreneurial research and is home to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor UK project which is principally used by the UK government’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

  • Our commitment to helping small businesses is delivered through the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses programme in the West Midlands.

  • The way in which organisations manage projects has a resounding impact not only on their performance but also on the lives of customers and clients. The TRANSFORMATION Project has built on knowledge from the public, third and private sectors to create new management toolsets.

  • Transforming SMEs to Improve their Revenues through the Adoption of Advanced Services (TRAN-SIP)
This programme is designed to deliver sustainable growth to businesses by helping them to capture significant untapped value from their customers by providing services such as maintenance, spare parts provision, training and outcome-based contracts. These services complement the products you produce and provide your customer with the capability to perform their business more effectively. This programme of business support for SMEs is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is delivered by the Advanced Services Group, Aston Business School.
