Matthew Carter

Dr Matthew Carter is a Senior Research Fellow with a background in Work and Organisational Psychology, and is currently the Course Director of the Human Resource Management in Business MSc degree course. 

Prior to this current role, Matthew was project manager of the NHS National Staff Survey between 2007 and 2011, and worked on a number of Department of Health funded projects on people management, team-based working, staff involvement and engagement conducted by the Institute of Health Services Effectiveness at Aston University. 

More recently, Matthew has also contributed towards two mixed method projects with researchers from the Aston Research Centre for Healthy Ageing (ARCHA) which examined the health and well-being of older adults entering residential care, and with colleagues from the Work & Organisational Psychology which examined provisions made for trackside workers on railways.  

His research interests include workplace design and behaviour, and people management in health service settings. He received his Ph.D. from Aston University in 2003 which examined the association between people management practices and patient mortality.
