Linked into the University Wider Mission of Community Engagement members of the ACPO Centre have worked consistently with Business Enterprise at a local and national level to improve their organisational effectiveness and HR capability.
Helen Shipton is working as part of knowledge transfer partnership team to help a West Midlands medium-sized business achieve cultural change. The company is using an HRM- Innovation tool that was designed following Helen’s prior research to capture a company’s orientation towards innovation and identify next steps. The tool gives insight into what concrete actions the senior team together with HR specialists can take to build an organization’s innovation capability.
On another project, Helen has been working with Aston Executive Development and the University of Cumbria to deliver a series of workshops examining resilience- at the level of the individual, the team and the organization. This input has gone well especially given these difficult times. Often, people feel anxious not just about building the resilience of their teams but also about whether the workplace environment is ‘Hardy’ (Maddi, 2007), with employees feeling committed to the values of the organizations, having a degree of control over their work and embracing, rather than feeling threatened by, challenge and change.
Other Centre members are actively engaged with businesses, including new doctoral researcher, Jude Preston. Jude has wide experience delivering learning and training to employees within a variety of sectors, especially the rail industry, healthcare and logistics
