Research Title Work engagement in a Brazilian context: Antecedents, the role of psychological empowerment and outcomes.
Brief Outline of Research to date This research seeks to understand the extent to which distinct leadership constructs (LMX, Transformational Leadership and Empowering Leadership) impact work engagement through a psychological empowerment mechanism. Additionally, this study is investigating the conditions in which work engagement may have its greatest impact on Organizational Citizenship Behaviours
Data will be collected from front line nurses and supervisors at two major hospitals in Brazil.
Hierarchical Linear Modelling will be used to analyse the data.
Why did you choose to study for your MSc by research at Aston Business School? I chose Aston because of its reputation, and leading professors in the area of my chosen field.
What is good about the MSc by research? The MSc Management Research is a rigorous programme and students follow the same course structure given in the PhD programme.
I am constantly interacting and learning from different professors and students who have more research experience than me.
The diverse background of research students also makes the learning process unique, interesting and enriching.
What is the most challenging aspect of the programmeme so far? The modules’ assignments are very intellectually challenging.
What would you advise anyone thinking of doing a research degree? First and foremost: You must have great levels of motivation and dedication. Second, you must be prepared for a challenging intellectual environment. Last you must have fun as you go.
