Career and personal development

Employability is at the very heart of what we do at Aston.  During your time on one of our programmes you will receive dedicated support to enable you to find global employment opportunities. You will develop the skills needed to gain the right role for you and to make an impact from day one.

We provide a range of activities to support your career and personal development as well as individual guidance and one-to-one support for career planning and job applications.

We also work closely with employers and work experience providers to source opportunities and match them to our postgraduate students.

The Careers Management Programme help students explore opportunities in the UK and globally, and to prepare for the selection process.

The programme covers strategic career planning, career networking, opportunities for MSc students and the essential skills needed to apply in the global job market. The latter includes CV development, application form completion, interview preparation, psychometric assessment and assessment centres.

The programme includes timetabled and lunchtime presentations, workshops, webinars and mock assessment centres.

Careers Programme

Through experiential learning, skills workshops, work-based experience and study abroad, the Professional Development Programme acts as a pathway between theory and the world of work.

Students develop the skillset that will form the stepping stone to their future careers and to becoming the culturally aware global professionals of tomorrow.

Personal Development

Employers who have recently recruited our graduates include: PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Accenture, IBM, Cap Gemini, Deutsche Bank, RSG Consulting, Barclays, HBOS, Bank of China, BNP Paribas, Fidelity International, Tesco, PepsiCo International, Olympus and the Canadoil Group.

We deliver a busy employer events programme with regular careers fairs, employer presentations and employer drop-in sessions providing opportunities for students to create essential employer connections.

Deutsche Bank Speed Networking

Aston works hand in hand alongside business, and with Birmingham City Centre on the door step you can start building your professional network immediately.

Students are encouraged to network with local business leaders and professionals, including alumni at our regular networking events. Aston hosts a number of events with expert speakers and local professional associations as well as the monthly Aston Business Network, designed to provide a platform for informal networking.

Alumni are a critical part of your network.  You will have the opportunity to connect with our Alumni Career Champions, recent graduates who have progressed quickly and secured roles with employers of choice and senior and influential alumni who return regularly to deliver talks and master classes.

If you have an idea for your own business then Aston is the place for you. The BSEEN programme offers grant and mentoring support as well as incubator space to Aston students and graduates to help you get your business off the ground.

We are also one of only three Business Schools in the UK to hold the Small Business Charter Gold Award, in recognition of our expertise and support for small business owners and managers.
