MBA Scholarships

Our MBA scholarships are designed to support talented applicants wishing to develop their skills and knowledge with the Aston MBA starting in 2017/18.


At Aston we are looking for future Leaders/ Entrepreneurs to join our MBA programme. In order to be successful for this award, we will be looking for evidence that demonstrates your leadership/ entrepreneurial qualities and experience to date in your career and how this will contribute to the Aston MBA programme. 

Your cover letter should include a clear description of what you see as your strengths and weaknesses and the personal attributes that set you apart from other applicants. We are also interested to hear how you believe the Aston MBA programme will help you to grow as a future leader/ entrepreneur.

In order to encourage a diverse mix of applicants and to award outstanding achievement from the highest calibre of students from around the world, we are pleased to offer the following regional scholarships for 2017/8:

  • India 
  • Nigeria
  • Thailand 
  • China 

In order to be considered for our regional scholarship, candidates will have to be resident of the above regions and be able to demonstrate how they can become an ambassador of the Aston MBA programme once they complete their studies.

The Aston Excellence scholarship will be awarded to students who can demonstrate outstanding academic, professional and personal achievements along with the passion to become an ambassador for the Aston MBA.

Open to UK, EU and International students wishing to study the Full Time Aston MBA (September 2017). 


The Aston Excellence scholarship will be awarded to students who can demonstrate outstanding academic, professional and personal achievements along with the passion to become an ambassador for the Aston MBA.

Open to UK, EU and International students wishing to study the Online Aston MBA or Executive Part-Time MBA (January and September 2017).

Up to £6,000 

As a Ministry of Defence approved Education Learning Credit provider, we welcome applications from members of the armed forces. In your application for a scholarship, please state your experience to date as well as the reasons for why you want to undertake an MBA qualification. This scholarship will be awarded in addition to an ELC scholarship awarded by the MoD.


Aston University was proud to be a part of this scheme in 2016. Details of 2017 GREAT- Aston Scholarship programme to be confirmed shortly.

Value: Up to £10,000, paid in three instalments per year. Part-time loans capped at £5,000 per year.


  • Available for UK nationals ordinarily resident in England. EU, EEA or Swiss nationals ordinarily resident in the EU, EEA or Switzerland.
  • For postgraduate Masters degrees in all subjects, including taught and research programmes.
  • Available for full-time, part-time and distance learning courses.
  • Full-time courses - up to two years (depending on the length of the course). Part-time courses - up to four years (equivalent to a two-year full-time course). Part-time study must be at least 50% of a full-time course.
  • For courses beginning on or after 1st August 2016.
  • Applicants must be under 60, without existing qualifications at Masters-level or above.

Administration: Loans will be issued and managed by the Student Loans Company.

Note: This is a repayable student loan, not a scholarship.

Applicants wishing to apply for one of the Aston MBA scholarships must meet the following criteria:

  • Full completion of an online application for the Aston MBA. it is recommended that applicants submit their scholarship application at the same time as their MBA application (see details below).

  • Be a self-funded candidate.

**Please note that the GREAT Britain Scholarship carries the additional geographical criteria detailed  above.

Once these criteria have been met applicants can apply for a scholarship by submitting a succinct cover letter to mbascholarships@aston.ac.uk making sure to note their full name and application number (this number will be included in their MBA application email acknowledgement). The cover letter should:

  • Be a maximum of 700 words
  • State why they have selected their programme of study, how they are going to apply the knowledge they learn in their career and 
  • Demonstrate your potential to contribute to the learning experience of the programme and become a successful ambassador for the school during your studies.

Applicants must be available for an interview (which may be via skype) as this is an essential part of the scholarship assessment. 

Applicants make only one general scholarship application for all of the above scholarships and are not required to specify which scholarship they wish to be considered for. This decision will be made by the scholarship panel.

All scholarship awards and decisions will be finanlised by the start of the MBA.  Scholarship applications will not be considered after the commencement date of the programme.    

Applications will be assessed upon the following criteria:

  • Academic merit based on previous qualifications
  • Ambition and the potential to make a significant contribution to business and to society after graduation.

A bursary of 20% of the full fee for all those who completed their first degree at Aston University is available. The bursary will be reflected in your fees which will be shown in the offer e-mail. Alumni may also apply for the other ABS scholarships to a maximum award of 50% of the full tuition costs.
