On Thursday 29th April 2010, over 55 delegates arrived at Aston University for the 4th lecture in the Aston India Foundation seminar series entitled ‘Successful Entrepreneurship During Difficult Times’ in conjunction with Deloitte. The event also saw the regional book launch of ‘India Inc’ by Aston Business School alumnus and Managing Director of Saffron Chase, Vikas Pota.
Professor Pawan Budhwar, Associate Dean of Research at Aston Business School and Director of the Aston India Foundation, welcomed the audience to the event and gave a brief update on the progress and recent successes of the Foundation which have included a large grant from the Indian government to research renewable bio-energy resources in the UK and India.
The session was introduced by Richard Edwards, a senior partner at Deloitte Birmingham, who highlighted the importance of India to the British and global economy as the strength of manufacturing and trade in the country continues to grow at an astonishing rate. He argued that companies are still enthusiastic on creating partnerships with the Indian market and mentioned how Deloitte continue to support strong business links between the Indian and UK sectors.
Book Launch – ‘India Inc’
Mr C Gururaj Rao, Consul General of India Birmingham, officially launched the book ‘India inc. How India’s Top Ten Entrepreneurs are Winning Globally’ and welcomed the author and established businessman, Vikas Pota, to the lectern to discuss the reasons behind the book.
As an entrepreneur himself, Pota was keen to emphasise the importance of innovation and new ideas to the global marketplace and talked of how current Indian entrepreneurs are taking on the world. The pure ambition and diverse vision of Indian business leaders proved to be a key topic of conversation during his speech as he talked of inspiring business leaders such as Ratan Tata, Chairman of India’s largest conglomerate which now owns Jaguar and Land Rover, and Kishore Lulla who is responsible for promoting Bollywood films to compete with major Hollywood blockbusters.
‘A Perspective on Surviving Difficult Times’
Stephen Kingan, Director of Nexor Ltd, a leading provider of information assurance solutions gave a presentation on how to overcome challenging times by employing effective strategy tactics and staff management techniques. Stephen also highlighted the importance of innovation to an organisation if they are to keep up with a changing society.
