“We are a small Chartered Accountancy practice in North London, who before taking on any placement students had the same staff for a number of years. The Senior Partner was close to retirement, and we needed a new employee of a certain standard at a certain price! A placement student really fitted the bill.

During their placement we offer the students a varied work experience with as much responsibility as they are willing to take upon themselves. In return we get the following:-

Since finishing their degrees, our first two placement students have rejoined us on training contracts and are currently taking their professional examinations.  Our first student, Anthony Turner, has recently won the Chris Reay Memorial Prize for the highest placed candidate from a firm of five partners or less in the LSCA area at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ Professional Stage Examinations.  Though I would like to think that in some small way we were instrumental in Anthony achieving this award, the real accolades obviously go to Anthony himself, for all his hard work, and Aston University for preparing him so well.  This well prepared student is with us now, due to having spent his placement year here.

"Bhagat was a highly motivated employee who made a significant contribution  during his placement in IBM. He took on full ownership and responsibility for delivering to time and to quality, which as far beyond our expectations of an Industrial Trainee. Bhagat continuously demonstrated the correct level of professionalism and was well respected by his colleagues and management team.

Bhagat is an effective communicator, able to use appropriate communication skills depending on the message he is delivering and his audience. He demonstrated active listening and was able to select the appropriate tools/media to communicate management information internally with IBM and externally to the Client. 

Bhagat was always approachable and always willing to assist his colleagues. He thrived on taking on new activities and challenges to develop his skills set. There was a period when the team was not fully staffed; Bhagat stepped up to take on additional responsibilities to meet the needs of the business. During this time Bhagat demonstrated that he can deliver under pressure and remain professional.

Bhagat has taken the opportunity to represent IBM at Graduate recruitment events. He is involved in University campus teams, attending career fairs and organising events. He has also organised a recruitment event and attended this in his own time on a weekend. When these events have been during office hours he has made arrangements to ensure his work is covered.

Bhagat was a key member of IBM and is a real loss now he has returned to university."
