15th June, 2010

Aston engineering students showcased a range of engineering models and products at the Aston Inspired 2010 design show.

A robotic remote controlled lamp, ultra violet powered water purifier and thermal window shutters, were just a handful of the fantastic design projects on show from over 100 innovative undergraduates.

The exhibition, held at Woodcock Sports Centre, was an unmissable opportunity for both students and potential employers alike, showcasing the excellent design talent that Aston University has to offer.

Members of Aston’s Formula Student Team were also on hand, exhibiting their latest technically advanced competitive race car, ready to compete at Silverstone Circuit next month. This follows their great success at last year’s competition where the team won first place in the West Midlands.

This year’s larger event also saw students from the Shell Eco Car project where final years are challenged to design a vehicle that travels further using less energy. The project encourages students to consider sustainable energy technologies that helps gain invaluable experience for the future.

Mechanical Engineering student Ben Coldrick commented, “This exhibition has been a fantastic opportunity for us to display all the hard work and effort that has gone into each individual project. Aston already has a well established engineering department and this event highlights the talent that is on offer.”
