Aston University product design and engineering students will be showcasing their final year projects at the free Aston Inspired design show, from Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 June.
A vibrating armband alarm, adjustable bicycle handlebars, a solar cooled medical fridge and a car seat elevator for children are among some of the fifty plus designs being showcased at the exhibition in the Great Hall at Aston University campus in Birmingham. It is an ideal opportunity to meet the next generation of designers and engineers and to discover their wealth of creative work and innovation.
Members of Aston’s Formula Student Team will be unveiling their design for this year’s race car. It is set to compete against teams from around the globe in the UK university championships taking place at Silverstone from the 11 - 15 July.
The show will also exhibit the Shell Eco-Car project where final year students are challenged to design a vehicle that travels the furthest distance using the least amount of energy. The project promotes the use of sustainable energy technologies with this year’s car having a zero emission hydrogen powered fuel cell. The car won Shell’s Eco-Design Award for pushing the boundaries of sustainable driving and car design.
Rosie Ansell, a product design student at Aston University said; “The courses at Aston have a strong focus on industry requirements to ensure graduates are well prepared for their future job. As a product design student, I have been involved in many group projects that have helped improve my communication, teamwork and leadership skills, which are all fundamental for succeeding in any career.
“Being involved in the organisation of Aston Inspired has been exciting and I can’t wait to start showcasing the hard work of all the product design and engineering students.”
The Aston Design Show is being held in The Great Hall, Aston University, Aston Triangle. It is open to the public on Wednesday 13 June from 9am to 5pm, Thursday 14 June from 9am to 5pm and Friday 15 June from 9am to 12.30pm.
