A group of Aston University students spent 12 hours in a local gym bench pressing for charity. They raised £1,200 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, lifting over 1.2million lbs of weight in the process.

21 students started the challenge at 9am and using a 50kg bar, bench pressed the weight until 9pm that evening. When the final repetitions were completed and totalled the weight lifted during the challenge equalled more than 86 double decker buses, and averaged out at 762kg being lifted every minute for the 12 hours.  The event was organised by Ashley Davis, 21, who was one of six students staying for the whole 12 hours, on average performing one repetition each every 30 seconds.

Ashley said: ‘I’m really pleased with how the event went, whilst it was a hard day, it was still a really enjoyable experience. It’s for a great cause, and I can’t thank enough everyone that came along to support us or donated. I’d also like to thank everyone involved and for Canal Side gym for letting us hold the event there.’
