Aston University supports Universities Week

Aston University

14th June, 2010

The inaugural Universities Week takes place between 14-20 June, and Aston University is delighted to lend its support.

Organised by Universities UK (UUK), this is a pilot campaign which seeks to highlight all that is good about Higher Education, during what has been – and continues to be – a difficult time for the sector. The campaign emphasises the important role universities play in the UK, with a particular focus on their sizeable contribution to the economy, culture, society and the environment.

Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of UUK, said: “Quite apart from the transformative effect of higher education on students, our universities are an integral part of society – from the training of teachers, doctors and sports professionals; to the development of future fuels, groundbreaking medicines, new technologies, or improved nutrition.”

UUK has produced a dedicated website – www.universitiesweek.org.uk – which has more information about the campaign, and has created a Facebook group which anyone can join, at www.facebook.com/ukuniversities.
