Students celebrate diversity with ‘One World Week’ event

2nd February 2009

Cultural diversity will be celebrated at Aston University this week with an event to highlight Aston’s diverse and global student population.

‘One World Week’ (Monday, February 2nd to Friday, February 6th)  will see a series of cultural events involving live DJs, a Flavours of the World food festival, international sporting challenges and a World Awareness Day Forum with expert guest speakers and politicians. The week’s grand finale is set to feature a day of musical performances to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Ox.

Guri Summan, the Students Guild President said the aim was to raise awareness of and celebrate the University’s diverse student body. ‘Aston really does welcome students from so many different cultures and backgrounds from across the UK and the World. This event provides a platform, on which, we can continue to inspire students to appreciate and celebrate global diversity.

Celebrations will begin on the 2nd February with the Aston Carnival and a balloon release to mark the occasion. The week long variety of events, organised by and involving Aston students, will emphasise heritage and culture from across the world, including America, Asia and several European countries.
