Participants needed for new University eye study

October 4 2007 - for immediate release

Do you suffer from itchy eyes, or do you have an allergy that affects your eyes, such as hay fever?

Advantage West Midlands (AWM) is funding a new study to investigate how allergies affect the eyes. It is a being carried out by the Optometry Department at Aston University and the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit (NPARU) at the University of Worcester, as part of AWM’s Birmingham Science City Project.

Aston University specialises in rigorous, relevant research which has an impact on the real world. It is hoped that this study will reveal:

• An estimate of the prevalence of ocular allergies in the population

• The severity of signs and symptoms relating to the eyes as a result of allergies

• The most effective way(s) of managing eye allergies.

If you would like to take part in the study, visit www.aston.ac.uk/allergy for further information, email allergy@aston.ac.uk or telephone 0121 204 4193 (Mondays to Fridays only).
