14 May 2007 - for immediate release

Youngsters from local Birmingham schools will be have a fun-filled and educational day at Aston University on Wednesday, 16 May at the Salter's Festival of Chemistry. Each school will be represented by a team of four 11-13 year olds who will take part in fun experiments and challenges, including a dry ice demonstration.

During the morning the teams will take part in a competitive, hands-on practical activity, 'A Salty Tale', in which they will use their analytical skills. In the afternoon they will compete in the University Challenge, a practical activity chosen by the University. The day will end with a prize giving at which all participants will be given individual fun prizes and certificates and the winning teams will receive cash prizes for their schools.

The Salters' Festivals of Chemistry are an initiative of the Salter's Institute, whose aim is to promote the appreciation of chemistry among the young. The Aston event has been organised by Dr Gareth Griffiths from the School of Engineering & Applied Science.
