Aston graduates in high demand in the workplace

27 September 2006 – for immediate release

The latest figures issued by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) show again that Aston University graduates have one of the highest employment rates in the UK.

The Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey tracked the destinations of all 2004/5 full time first degree graduates across the UK, six months after graduation. The results revealed that Aston University achieved significantly higher than the national average for graduate employment. The national average was 71 per cent compared to Aston’s impressive 82 per cent of graduates into employment.

The HESA statistics indicate that graduates of Aston University maintain a very high level of employability, which has continued to rise from year to year. At the same time, the number of Aston graduates still seeking employment has dropped and at 3 per cent is much lower than the national average figure of 7 per cent.

Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Graham Hooley, said: ‘These figures reinforce the position of Aston as "the university which gives you a great start to your career". The high degree of vocational relevance in our programmes, coupled with close links with employers through professional accreditations and work placement experience, means that Aston graduates are in high demand in the workplace.’
