New look for Aston’s Optometry Clinic

21 December 2006 – for immediate release

Aston University has unveiled its newly refurbished 80,000 eye care Reception and Dispensing Clinic, which is open to the public as well as University staff and students.

The University is the largest Optometry teaching centre in the UK, and provides professional eye care to approximately 6,000 patients a year.

The clinic provides NHS and private eye examinations, as well as contact lenses and specialist clinics in binocular vision, paediatrics and low vision. Together with Aston's Academy of Life Sciences, a full range of glasses, contact lenses, refractive surgery and eye care is on offer.

Most of the eye care clinics are provided by final year students, and although they take longer than professional clinics, they are fully supervised by an experienced Registered Optometrist and are provided at subsidised cost. With an Aston prescription, patients are entitled to go into the Dispensing Clinics where there is a comprehensive range of frames from budget to designer eyewear. Lenses of the latest technology are available at very competitive prices. The contact lens clinics offer every type of lens available, including the very latest material, and contact lens fitting and aftercare appointments are available free of charge in the student clinic.
