Starring role for Aston graduate
AN International Business and Modern Languages graduate from Aston University has recently become a TV star in Germany - presenting a product she helped to launch on one of the world's biggest home shopping channels.
Susannah Mathieson joined the European Graduate Development Programme at ICI Paints in Hilden, Germany after graduating from Aston in 2004. She is currently working in marketing for 'Molto' (the German version of Polycell, which makes Polyfilla).
One of her first projects in the job was to launch a new product in the German market. It is a hygienic, anti-slip paint which can be painted onto any slippery surface, especially baths and shower basins. The paint is transparent and far more hygenic than bath mats as it can be easily cleaned using normal products.
Susannah approached the shopping channel QVC to see if they would be interested in buying the product and they were - it sold in a bulk load at the beginning of the year. QVC needed an 'expert' to present the product live on television and they chose Susannah. She went on live TV for a ten minute slot on May 15.
Susannah explains: 'It was pretty nerve wracking for me as I not only did I have to present a product on TV, but do it in a foreign language as well. Luckily I'd had quite a lot of experience presenting in German as part of my IBML course at Aston. My TV appearance went really well and we managed to sell enough products to get a second live slot, which was on a Sunday morning at 2am!'
