Flying Ferret signs up for Sutton Fun Run!

THE Flying Ferret, otherwise known as Ernie Warwick, who is now aged 89, will take part in the Great Midlands Fun Run in Sutton Coldfield on 5 June in aid of Acorn's Childrens' Hospice. He will be running with staff from Aston University in memory of Alexander Mason-Dunn who passed away at the Selly Oak Hospice on 21 August 2004.

Coral Mason, Alexander's mother, works at Aston in the Registry department.

The run will be just a light stroll for Ernie, who ran across the USA from Washington DC to San Francisco at the tender age of 79. In fact, he's competed in over 100 marathons in total and has run all over the world, from Japan to Spain. And he didn't start running until he was 65.

Ernie, who is now retired, began working at Aston University when he was in his late sixties. He worked in the Sports Hall and then transferred to other duties, including taking the children in the nursery their lunch every day. He received an Honorary Degree from the university in recognition of his achievements in 1999.

You can sponsor the team of Aston runners by contacting Coral Mason in Registry and Planning Services on 0121 204 4672 or emailing her at c.l.mason@aston.ac.uk.
