Strangers in the night

THE Strangers' and Members' Dining Rooms at the House of Commons played host to a reunion of 170 Aston University graduates thanks to local MP Dr Ashok Kumar agreeing to act as sponsor.

The event, held on 6 June, was organized by Aston University's Alumni Relations Office, an office that Dr Kumar is very familiar with. Dr Ashok Kumar MP graduated from Aston in 1978 with a BSc in Chemical Engineering and has since obtained and MSc and a PhD from the same institution.

"It was pleasure to see so many of friends and colleagues when I went to this function. My days at Aston University served me well when I left academia to work in the steel industry on Teesside. It was really good to be able to put into practical use the theory I had been taught at Aston and the rigours of analysis have stayed with me in my later career as a parliamentarian. I want to see Aston go on from strength to strength, and I have no doubt that, with the success they are now enjoying, this will happen."

Due to the success of the event, Aston University is looking to repeat the event again next year. If you are an Aston graduate and would like to be kept informed of forthcoming reunions and events, contact Caroline Hidson on 0121 204 3000.
