Aston doles out best employment figures
ASTON University's position as the top mainstream university in England and Wales for graduates finding employment was confirmed today with the release of official figures by HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency).
In yet another outstanding year of achievement for Aston, 79% of its first degree graduates entered employment within six months of graduation compared to the national average of 67%.* Over the past decade the city centre university boasts the best graduate employment figures in the country.
Only 4.8% of Aston graduates were unemployed compared to a national average of 6.2%.
Aston postgraduates also performed well, with 87% entering employment compared to a national average of 83%.
Stewart Comfort, head of the university's school liaison and careers office, said:
'Aston graduates are much sought after by major companies for employment in the UK and abroad.
Employers recognise the high quality of our degree programmes and their relevance to business and the professions. More than three quarters of our students take a professional placement (sandwich) year as part of their degree which gives them a massive advantage over other graduates in the labour market.
There is no doubt this is highly attractive to both school and college leavers and one of the reasons why our latest open day attracted a record number of visitors.'
We can be confident that Aston really is the place to study for those keen to start work soon after they graduate,' he continued. 'Being sought after by some of the UK's best companies, proves that they are particularly well equipped to meet the demands of industry.'
