Midland student is best DJ in the country

ANDREW SHANKS, alias DJ Decoy, who is in the final year of a BSc Marketing degree at Aston University, has won the Juice 2002 student DJ competition (sponsored by Vestax, Redbull, The Daily Telegraph, HMV, Sketchers and IDJ Magazine). He beat off competition from up to 2,000 entrants from across the UK.

60 universities took part in this year's competition, and the grand final was held at the Ministry of Sound in London.

Andrew has won 1,000 in cash, music vouchers, a set of decks, a mixer and an agency deal. He is currently resident DJ at AfroDizzyScratch at the Medicine Bar in Digbeth.

Andrew said: "There were 10 DJs in the competition final all playing different styles of music and six judges from the music industry. I was quite surprised to win the final but very pleased at officially being the best student DJ in the UK. I met my agent last Friday to discuss playing at the Ministry of Sound again and some other opportunities. I am concentrating on getting my degree at the moment though!"
