The Eastside Learning Quarter - bringing together Technology, Learning and Culture

WITH the Eastward expansion of Birmingham City Centre, a new "Learning Quarter", is being developed, where learning, technology and culture are being brought together in a green campus-like environment.

Aston University, Aston Business School, Aston Science Park and a number of other academic institutions are providing the main foundations for a knowledge-based environment in the heart of Birmingham.

The physical connections between Aston University and Aston Science Park have been further strengthened by The Business Partnership Unit, Aston University's commercial arm being located on the park. The Science Park provides the ideal location to nurture, grow and expand business, using entrepreneurial flair and university brainpower to strengthen the bonds between academia and industry. The Business Partnership Unit have successfully been providing eminent academics to focus on business issues, then utilising technology transfer and innovation to help develop new technologies and learning - one of the key factors in competitiveness.

The reputation of Aston University's research, with 86% of all academic staff undertaking research of international excellence has further developed the ability to transfer knowledge to industry and commerce helping to transform the Midlands into a knowledge economy, and helping to strengthen Birmingham's reputation as a regional centre for research and development.

The Learning Quarter will provide the opportunity for all training and work-based learning, to be undertaken with excellent access to information, from a campus-like environment. The strong links with Industry, and Business combined with Innovation and Research will enhance the intellectual capital of the Region.
