Aston's alumni office wins national marketing award
SARAH PYMM, Alumni Relations Officer at Aston University in Birmingham, has won a Gold Award in the national Heist Education Marketing Awards.
The annual awards celebrate excellence in the marketing of universities and colleges. The 2001 competition attracted 246 entries from 140 universities and colleges across the UK. Sarah's Gold award was one of only 19 awarded at the ceremony in London to those entries that the judges felt to be outstanding across a range of criteria.
Sarah won her award for her alumni communications strategy which keeps graduates all over the world in touch with each other and their University and encourages graduates to be involved in the life of the University today. Apex, the twice-yearly magazine, is a key element in the strategy. It provides a 2-way communication channel bringing news and services to alumni and, through the Graduate Update Form, allows alumni to respond back to the University and take part in projects which add value to the student experience.
"Our graduates are very important to us. They have a wealth of expertise and tremendous goodwill which they are willing to share with each other and our current students", commented Sarah. "Aston University has a committed body of graduates who want to retain a close association with their University. The alumni communications strategy helps them to achieve this."
