NEC Chief presents MacLaren Lecture

THIS year's prestigious MacLaren Lecture at Aston University will be presented on Wednesday 10 October at 6.30pm by Chief Executive of The NEC Group, Barry Cleverdon, OBE.

The theme of the annual public lecture will be "The NEC Group: The Power and the Passion" detailing The NEC Group and its growth into Europe's busiest exhibition venue since Mr Cleverdon's appointment in 1995.

The Group is the market leader in exhibitions, conferences, entertainment and sport because of its portfolio of venues: The NEC (National Exhibition Centre), The NEC Arena, The ICC (International Convention Centre), Symphony Hall and The NIA (National Indoor Arena).

Mr Cleverdon has previously been General Manager of the ICC, Symphony Hall and The NIA and was instrumental in setting new standards for the UK conference industry.

He joined The NEC in 1977 from the National Agricultural Centre at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. Barry Cleverdon is a Board Director of Birmingham Marketing Partnership, Hyatt Regency Birmingham Limited and also President of Solihull Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was presented with the Midlands Business Person of the Year Award by the Royal Variety Club in February 2000.

The annual public lecture (the 44th in the MacLaren Lecture series) will take place on Wednesday 10 October at 6.30pm in the Great Hall at Aston University. Entrance to the lecture is free but by ticket only. Please contact 0121 204 3000
