Professor Paul G Maropoulos Dipl Eng, MSc, PhD, Eur Ing, CEng, FHEA, FCIRP, FIMechE Professor Paul Maropoulos joined Aston University in September 2015 as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange. At Aston, he is also Professor of Manufacturing Engineering. Professor Maropoulos is a senior academic with a strong international research profile, a powerful track record of technology transfer activity and a commitment to regional economic growth. Prior to joining Aston, Professor Maropoulos had held Professorial appointments at Durham University and the University of Bath. At Bath, he was Chair of Innovative Manufacturing, Director of the Laboratory for Integrated Metrology Applications and served as Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. As a Chartered Engineer, Fellow and incoming Chairman of the Manufacturing Industries Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Paul is well known at a national level and has a strong influence in the engineering profession. On the international stage, he maintains a global research presence as an elected Fellow of the International Academy of Production Engineering (CIRP), Editor of the Journal of Engineering Manufacture, and Visiting Professor at two leading Universities in China.
Professor Maropoulos is a key member of the Midlands Innovation team. Midlands Innovation is a partnership between Aston, Birmingham, Loughborough, Leicester, Nottingham and Warwick universities, combining their research, resources, skills and people to improve different sectors of the Midlands and beyond. Paul is a member of the Executive Management Group board which consists of the Pro-Vice-Chancellors from the Midlands Innovation universities, meeting regularly helping to achieve their vision. Paul is currently involved heavily in the transport initiative. Professor Maropoulos has published extensively and has been awarded substantial research grants and contracts from EPSRC, Innovate UK and industry, working in research partnership with major companies such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Nissan and Caterpillar. As well as working with blue chip companies, Paul has also directed successful SME focused projects at Durham University and at the University of Bath, enhancing business productivity and competitiveness.
