Professor Alec Cameron has recently succeeded Julia King DBE, the Baroness Brown of Cambridge, as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Aston University.

Professor Cameron was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education, at the University of Western Australia in 2013, where he was responsible for the University’s education mission, the UWA student experience, the provision of academic support services, as well as distance learning ad online strategies. Prior to this he was the foundation Dean of the Australian School of Business at UNSW Australia and President of the Australian Business Deans Council.

Alec Cameron has also held senior positions in the IT and Telecoms industries, including Sun Microsystems, Alcatel and Telstra. 

Professor Cameron said “I feel privileged at being given the opportunity to lead Aston University at a time of success, and to evolve the distinctive Aston strategy in a rapidly-changing environment driven by internationalisation, technology and deregulation. Aston is renowned for its commitment to graduate employability, translational research, and its engagement with business. It is experiencing record numbers of students, best ever levels of student satisfaction, and is growing its research funding base.”

He continued “I look forward to continuing the momentum built up by Baroness Brown, and I am ambitious to see Aston progress globally in research, teaching and business engagement, accompanied by a continued rise in the rankings.”

Professor Cameron holds a BSc and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Sydney, a DPhil from Oxford, where he was also a Rhodes Scholar and Rugby Blue, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

His credentials as a leader, both in business and within leading universities are a great basis for guiding Aston to continued success.
