Cycling and Walking

Walking is the easiest and cheapest way to reach the Aston campus. We encourage staff and students to walk where possible so that they benefit and the environment benefits. It also helps us to keep our campus clean and safe. You can plan a variety of walking routes around Birmingham using walkit.com.

We have invested in new shelters for bicycles and motorcycles and there are now 100 new spaces for bicycles and 15 spaces for motorbikes on campus. The locations of these shelters are shown on our Sustainable Transport Map. To secure your bike in the shelters, you can purchase discounted bike locks (D-locks) from Security in the main building.

Aston has launched a staff cycle purchase loan scheme, which allows staff to benefit from a loan scheme to purchase a bike and equipment up to the value of £1000.

If you’re looking to buy a cheaper bike, then we work with local organisation Cycle Chain and Bike Foundry who provide refurbished second-hand bikes. They are also going to be taking away any donated / abandoned bikes from campus to refurbish. For more information contact the Energy,Environment and  Sustainability Team.
