Centre for Sustainability and Innovation

This multidisciplinary initiative brought together researchers from all the Schools across the University to stimulate and develop research that focused on the vital and current issues of innovation and sustainability. All members of all the different schools were involved because we hope to take a highly inter-disciplinary perspective on the challenges that sustainability, and the related environmental, social and economic issues present to society. Technological, organisational and social innovation are fundamental to providing long term sustainable solutions.

The focus of the Centre was on the following areas of activity:
  • To identify and promote relevant ideas for future collaborative research, involving both university internal cross-disciplinary collaboration, and collaboration with external organisations and funding agencies. To this end, a first CSI_Aston Workshop was organised on 11 May, 2009, followed by a sandpit to encourage collaborative grant submissions across the university. The first set of CSI Funding Grants were decided at the end of July 2009.

  • To provide the context and support the Aston Sustainability Colloquia which have grown out of the initial research seminars held during 2008.
