Hibernacula Maintenance

One sunny lunchtime last week, some of the dedicated members of our Aston Campus Wildlife Group set to work fixing up our two hibernacula on campus.

For those of you who don't know, a hibernaculum (meaning "tent for winter quarters") is a shelter for hibernating animals. Here at Aston, we have two hibernacula for amphibians, right next to the lake. The wildlife group worked to create a number of new entrance holes to the hibernacula, ensuring that anything wanting to take cover within over the Winter can gain easy access. A job well done, and a lovely lunch-hour spent out in the sunshine! You can check out more photos on facebook.
